Search for Missing Bay Area man

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office has launched a search for a missing Bay Area man in the Rock Creek area of El Dorado County. Edward Cavanaugh, a 46 year old male was last seen on July 17th while riding his blue Yamaha YZ 250 in the Rock Creek trail system. Mr. Cavanaugh parted ways with another rider he had been riding with. Cavanaugh was going to utilize the trail system to return to a residence he owns in the area. This trail system is in the Georgetown Divide area between the towns of Mosquito and Garden Valley.

Search efforts began yesterday and include over 50 Search and Rescue volunteers from El Dorado, Placer, Yolo, Alpine and Stanislaus Counties. Friends and family of Mr. Cavanaugh are searching the area as well. Search crews are utilizing off road vehicles, foot teams, and a C.H.P. helicopter.

Mr. Cavanaugh does have a medical condition. He was last seen wearing Fox brand dirt bike riding clothing and a black helmet. If anyone has information regarding Edward Cavanaugh please contact the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Central Dispatch non-emergency at (530) 621-6600

Kyburz Fire Update

Kyburz Fire Update:

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office has lifted the mandatory evacuation order for the area of Whitehall, East to the Sand Flat Campground. This same area remains under a voluntary evacuation and continues East up the Highway 50 corridor to Kyburz. The fire has burned approximately 200 acres and is approximately 30 percent contained.

One lane of Highway 50 is being opened for metered traffic from Alder Creek Tract, East to the Sand Flat Campground. Please drive safely due to fire crews working in and around this area.

Kyburz fire update: The Kyburz fire has burned approximately 100 acres. The fire began as a result of a vehicle fire. The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office has issued a mandatory evacuation order for the residents of Whitehall, east to the Sand Flat campground.

75 residences/vacation homes have been evacuated along with fifteen camp sites from the Sand Flat Campground. There are 224 assigned personnel fighting the fire. Helicopters and air tankers are being utilized as well.

The Red Cross has set up and is staffing an evacuation center at the Pollock Pines Community Center located at 2675 Sanders Drive in Pollock Pines.
