Home Invasion Robberies

For Immediate Release

Sergeant Tasha Thompson

On September 11, 2016, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Dispatch Center received reports of three separate home invasion robberies that had occurred within a forty minute time span in El Dorado Hills.

Two of the victims reported that four males had forced entry into their residences and held them at gunpoint.  All four were reportedly wearing masks and hooded sweatshirts in an attempt to disguise their identities.  The suspects stole wallets, cell phones and jewelry.  The third victim reported four males attempted to force entry into their residence but were unsuccessful.  The third victim did report the men were armed with firearms.

Deputies immediately started searching for the suspects.  Shortly thereafter, a deputy observed a vehicle occupied by four subjects and conducted an investigative stop in a commercial area of El Dorado Hills.  Four males were contacted and deputies observed various masks, gloves, backpacks and handguns in the vehicle.  After a thorough investigation by detectives, all four were arrested for armed robbery and booked into the El Dorado County Jail.

If anyone has any information that may assist with the investigation we encourage them to contact Detective J. Robertson at (530) 642-4722.  There is a possibility the suspects may have entered an additional residence but the homeowner may not have been home at the time.  We would like to identify that residence and who resides there.

Inmate Walk Away

On August 28th, 2016, 21 year old Placerville resident Kylee Clifton was arrested by Deputies at Walmart after she allegedly attempting to steal items from the store while under the influence of narcotics, and for providing false information during her arrest.  Clifton was booked into the county jail without incident.

On August 30th, 2016, Clifton was transported to Marshall Hospital for medical treatment.  Based on the charges Clifton was facing, she met the criteria established by State Law to remain at the hospital unguarded.  The applicable Penal Code Sections (4011.7 and 4011.9) allow for prisoners that do not constitute a danger to life or property to have their guard removed.  The inmate signs a form that clearly indicates that if they do walk away from the hospital, they face additional charges up to and including felony escape.

Clifton was at the hospital for several hours, when she left the facility in violation of her custody terms.  An area search for Clifton was immediately started, but failed to locate her.  The search for Clifton continued into the night, and Clifton was located and taken back into custody in on August 31st, 2016.

Clifton now faces additional charges of escaping from custody.

On 8/27/16 at 12:24 am, Correctional Officers working in the El Dorado County Jail found inmate Dennis Renk (39 years old) unresponsive in his cell.  Renk has been in custody since November 6th, 2015, when he was arrested on charges of homicide after an altercation in Camino.

Renk was immediately treated by Correctional Officers, Jail Medical Staff, and transferred into the care of El Dorado County Fire Paramedics and he was transported to Marshall Hospital for further treatment.

The Sheriff’s Office initiated the Critical Incident Protocol, which is common with all in custody incidents of this nature.  Taking this action activates a multi-agency investigative team comprised of Sheriff Detectives, District Attorney Investigators, CHP Investigators, South Lake Tahoe PD Detectives, and Placerville PD Detectives), and provides for complete impartiality in the investigation.

At 4:13 pm, Renk was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.  The cause of his death is under investigation by the Critical Incident Protocol Team and by the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Coroner Unit.
