On 08/04/15 at about 11:20 AM, the Sheriff’s Office received a call that 45 year-old missing person Edward Cavanaugh may have been found. The caller was a member of the family’s search effort who located a motorcycle matching the description of Edward’s and a deceased person nearby. The location was off the established OHV trail system in rugged brush filled terrain west of Slate Mountain.

At about the same time, the Cavanaugh family had gathered at the Sheriff’s Office and was informed of the discovery. They offered the following, “Our family would like to thank every single individual who has worked so hard to bring Ed home. We are overwhelmed with the kindness, generosity and support that has been shown by all in finding Ed. It truly is a testament to Ed’s extraordinary spirit and beautiful soul. Ed has touched so many lives in countless ways. We hope all who love Ed find comfort in knowing that his bright spirit is with us all during this heartbreaking time.”

The decedent has yet to be positively identified. Sheriff’s Office OES (Office of Emergency Services) personnel, detectives, and CHP Helicopter H20 responded to the scene. The investigation will continue with the Coroner’s Office.

On 7/29/15, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s S.W.A.T. team assisted the West El Dorado Narcotics Enforcement Team (WENET) in the service of a marijuana search warrant on two Garden Valley properties in the 4500 block of Ingot Lane. All subjects contacted on the property when the warrant was served, were detained without incident or injury.

During the search, marijuana was found growing inside the residence and was allegedly being sold to dispensaries. A firearm was located inside the residence as well as various items indicating motorcycle gang affiliation. A second outdoor marijuana garden containing about 12 marijuana plants was also discovered, reportedly belonging to a different subject who is on probation and not allowed to possess the drug.

About 170 marijuana plants, over 14 pounds of dried marijuana, and the firearm was taken as evidence. 55 year-old Gregory Gilman and his son, 23 year-old Dalton Gilman, were taken into custody for cultivation and suspicion of marijuana sales. Gregory received an additional charge of possession of a firearm by a felon. Gregory and Dalton were booked into the El Dorado County Jail where they were released on a $125,000 and $27,500 bond respectively.

This year’s National Night Out (NNO) event will take place on Tuesday 8/04/15. Six communities in El Dorado County will be hosting the event for their individual communities. The locations will be; Cameron Park, Camino, Diamond Springs, El Dorado Hills, Greenwood, and Pollock Pines.

Units participating from the Sheriff’s Office will be the Special Enforcement Detail (SED), the SWAT Team, the Explosive Ordinance Detail (EOD), Off Highway Vehicle Unit (OHV), the Dive Team, Crime Scene Investigators (CSI), K9, our Explorer POST, Search and Rescue (SAR), and the Sheriff’s Team of Active Retiree’s (STARS) will be present at the various host locations. This will be a great community event and an opportunity to learn more about working together to keep our neighborhoods safe.
